Fully restored Model T

1925 Ford Model T

Our 1925 Ford Model T example of a so-called "Tin Lizzy" was fully restored and donated was to us by a retired Battalion Chief "Uncle Dan". "Uncle Dan" is actually the uncle of one of our board members. Two of his brothers and two nephews are/were LACo firefighters.

Model T before restorationThough it has no fire service history, Chief "Uncle Dan" modified the vehicle to resemble a chief's buggy. Its 40-horsepower engine uses a magneto for ignition and it has an optional electric starter. A 12-volt battery is used to power the headlights; since the vehicle has no generator, the battery requires frequent recharging. Kerosene is used to illuminate the parking and taillights. In addition to this beautiful example of automotive history, Chief "Uncle Dan" generously donated the trailer in which it is transported.

After he donated the car he kept checking it out. He decided it was not nice enough to be in our Musuem, so he took it back and had a nearly $50,000 restoration done on it. NICE!...

The car was appraised at over $40K PRIOR to the restoration! This photo is of Chief "Uncle Dan" and the Model T before the restoration.

It is now beautifully restored as a chief's car. We will be placing Los Angeles County Fire Department graphics on it soon.

THANKS "UNLE DAN"!!!!!
